When I'm trying new barbecue, I always try to find that good thing to say. But sometimes, the best I can do is say, 'Well, they've got good rolls' or 'They got good ice tea.' Anyone in the know will understand what that means.
dbarrow's Review of Queens Barbecue
Weighted Overall
- Beans: Very nice spice, but just a little too mushy. Probably due to simmering all day? Try them at the lunch, probably perfect.
- Sauce: Very spicy and slightly sweet. Very nice mixture, well balanced. Excellent!!
- Spare Rib: Nice smoke flavor, but not enough rub and too firm and tough.
- Potato Salad: Mustard based and better than average.
- Coleslaw: Mush - YUCK!!
- Sausage: Good flavor and texture. Very nice with good spices.
- Dessert: Pina Colada Cake, home-made ice cream, and peach cobbler - all outstanding.
- Brisket: They trimmed off all the good shit and this is way too firm. Arggghhh!!! They messed up a perfectly good cut of meat.
- Atmosphere: Only place open on the island at this time. This place was not our intended stop, but thanks to Danny @ This Is It!! We are here, and happy to be here. Lots of Texas license plates and red, white, and blue table cloths. Newspaper articles and signed portraits by semi-famous people. Don't touch the wooden Indian!! Old timey cash register is a nice 'touch' - can't touch this either!! Buffalo hide overhead is definitely an unusual touch. Good tunes playing courtesy of the Arrow!!
