Just like Moses and his people wandered the desert, I've been traveling the back roads of this country on my own journey to the Barbecue Promised Land. I'd have taken better notes had I known I'd be writing a book.
ssweeney's Review of Habys Hot Pit Bbq
Weighted Overall
- Atmosphere: The silence is deafening... the joint is completely empty. 'Denmarks' was the original BBQ joint at this location 100 years ago. Habys has been here for 32 years. They are cooking with mesquite, but we are denied a tour.
- Potato Salad: Chopped potato salad has a different texture, but fairly average taste.
- Beans: Pintos - Thick & beefy. Good.
- Sauce: Thin & warm. Good for dippin' - not much to it, but it doesn't cover the meat flavor.
- Sausage: This is store-bought Eckridge. Sliced lengthwise. Fair.
- Brisket: Both the firm & fatty side are served. Firm is a little dry, but still fairly good & flavorful. The fatty side is rich and good.
- Spare Rib: SALTY. Meat is juicy and tender... falls apart. But they over-salted today.
