I think it's fair to say Texas has more variations in its barbecue styles than any other state. And more disagreements about them.
ssweeney's Review of Neelys Brown Pig Barbecue
Weighted Overall
- Atmosphere: 'Walk-Thru' window; cash or check only; sit down lunch spot; table service. This is a sandwich shop with a little 'Q on the menu.
- Atmosphere: To be fair, we really didn't eat the meats in the manner that they were intended. Next time we'll know to order the 'Brown Pig Sandwich' if we want their bbq.
- Brisket: Thinly sliced; A bit dry... this meat NEEDS sauce -- doesn't/can't stand alone.
- Pork: Thinly sliced; A bit dry... this meat NEEDS sauce -- doesn't/can't stand alone.
- Sauce: Tomato based sweet & sour sauce, with Tabasco.
- Quotable: 'Today might not be a good day' -- Our Waitress
- Quotable: 'I don't eat the pork, I just cook it.' -- The Cook
- Sides: Beans - pinto 'country-style' with bits of tomato; Slaw - Sweet! And the egde has come off the crunch; PS - Mustardy.
