ssweeney's Review of Sonny Bryans Smokehouse
Weighted Overall
- Spare Rib: There's just something about a pork rib for breakfast… crunchy exterior with nice spice and smoke; comes off the bone with a little tug. The meat is a little chewy - maybe cooked just a tad too hot?
- Overall: Line starting to form by 11am - Get here early! 'Open 10-2, or until the food runs out.' Classic. Sauce served in Corona bottles and kept warm by hot plate. A true 'joint' inside the Dallas city limits - a real jewel!
- Coleslaw: Sweet with poppy seeds - I like it.
- Beans: Baked, not pinto. There's a sweet & sour thing goin' on here. Very soft beans. Nice.
- Potato Salad: Run of the mill, but with big chunks of taters
- Sausage: Nicely spiced; peppery, but not overpowered. A little too finely ground & tightly packed - near store-bought consistency
- Brisket: Been sitting a while, but still moist. Pulls apart in chunks - not shreds … and not melting in my mouth - yet. Very good. A little chewy on the finish.
- Atmosphere: The original location - It’s a shack and I LOVE it!!! Nothing like trying to squeeze into these tiny school desks; Nice folks first thing in the morning (10 am)
