One of these days they'll get me.  They'll make me change my way of cooking, and when they do, that'll hurt my product. The style of barbecue we have here in Lexington is very unique. I think it will start to fade away.

ssweeney's Review of Beer Barn and BBQ

ssweeney's picture
Weighted Overall
6.2

Main Fare:

  • Brisket is rendered and moist... but still tough on the chew.  Is this an issue with reheating?
  • Rib is big and meaty.  Tasty.  Light coating of rub is salty & spicy.
  • Sausage is another with the homeade bologna or salami flavor profile with black pepper.
  • Jalapeno Cheese sausage is quite chewy.

Other Fare:

  • Baked potato casserole uses pit smoked taters and adds butter, garlic salt, and black pepper.  Hot, rich, and good.
  • Potato salad is a creamy, mayo-based type with egg and a touch of dill.  Very nicely done.

Atmosphere:

  • Before arrival, this seemed like the perfect concept: BBQ + Beer.  Unfortunately, we are surrounded by malty beverages, but cannot consume them on premise.  A good bet that they do mostly carry-out business!
  • One table inside with a couple of chairs and some coolers for seating.
  • Husband (and pit boss) is not here today, but his wife is running the counter at the Beer Barn - with the help from her toddler daughter.  Another friendly lady (from California) is running the barbecue window.
  • They ask how on earth we found them in Austonio, TX... the web is a wonderful resource!
