Food should be fun.
ssweeney's Review of Beer Barn and BBQ
Weighted Overall
Main Fare:
- Brisket is rendered and moist... but still tough on the chew. Is this an issue with reheating?
- Rib is big and meaty. Tasty. Light coating of rub is salty & spicy.
- Sausage is another with the homeade bologna or salami flavor profile with black pepper.
- Jalapeno Cheese sausage is quite chewy.
Other Fare:
- Baked potato casserole uses pit smoked taters and adds butter, garlic salt, and black pepper. Hot, rich, and good.
- Potato salad is a creamy, mayo-based type with egg and a touch of dill. Very nicely done.
Atmosphere:
- Before arrival, this seemed like the perfect concept: BBQ + Beer. Unfortunately, we are surrounded by malty beverages, but cannot consume them on premise. A good bet that they do mostly carry-out business!
- One table inside with a couple of chairs and some coolers for seating.
- Husband (and pit boss) is not here today, but his wife is running the counter at the Beer Barn - with the help from her toddler daughter. Another friendly lady (from California) is running the barbecue window.
- They ask how on earth we found them in Austonio, TX... the web is a wonderful resource!
